The tracking link was helpful. The final delivery notification was accurate.

The short shape suits our house better. Its new spot is easy to get to.

The short length helps in our stairwell. My old ladder was pretty unwieldy for that. We live in an older house that wasn't exactly built with space to spare. With the rigid ladder I really had to manoeuvre in some places. With the new one, the short length makes a lot of things easier. The weight's still there of course, but at least I'm no longer catching every door frame with a long end.

The service was friendly after delivery as well. That was help, not a sales pitch.

Already in the thick of it

The room isn't finished yet, but the ladder has already helped. Closed up in the evening and put to one side. Looks tidy in the photo and that's how it arrived too. It was a good buy for us.

The right purchase for what we need. The ladder has already been used several times.

The right ladder arrived. Checking it over after unpacking was quick.

The reply was something I could actually work with.

The reply helped me make my decision. I didn't have to explain my query three times.

The purchase has been a good fit at my parents'. I was there when it was first tried out.

The purchase came at just the right time for the work we had on. Being able to fold it away is handy in a house you're living in. We're not doing everything at once, just one room at a time. So the tools have to be put away again in between. The ladder suits that way of working. It's now been used for several small jobs and can be stowed away again afterwards. It was a sensible purchase for our household. I'd have liked less plastic when unpacking it.

The price matches my impression so far. The ladder really does get used here.

The parts look neatly finished.

The parts fit together neatly. I've no complaints about how it looks. With tools I like to take a closer look at the joints before I get too pleased. Nothing bothered me here when I unpacked it. After the first few uses I'm still happy with it. Time will tell how it looks after a few years, but it's got off to a good start and I don't regret ordering it.

The parcel has now arrived complete.

No extra delivery charges

The parcel arrived undamaged. Choosing on my phone was a bit confusing all the same.

The parcel arrived in time for the weekend. I'd have liked the dispatch email to be a bit clearer.

The packaging opened up neatly.

The order of the steps was clear once I'd had a look.

The order felt good overall. I'd consider ordering again. I'm reviewing both the process and my first impression of the ladder here. The parcel came within the stated timeframe, the contents were fine and operating it worked once I'd got to know it. It's given me a suitable solution for the jobs I've got planned. That's all I wanted from this order. The order emails could be a bit more concise.

The moving parts are easy to operate.

The locks are easy for me to see. I took my time over it the first time.

The locking mechanism seems properly made. The steps for retracting it are easy to follow.

The ladder really does get used in our house. I got it right with the size I chose.

The ladder often comes with me when I visit family. Taking it with us is easier to organise than it used to be.

The ladder looks decent and is easy to operate. A good choice so far for use around the house. I use the ladder at home and haven't run a comparison test against ten other models. All I can say is that the build quality on mine looks good and I can manage operating it. After several small jobs I'm still happy. For me, that experience is what counts in the end.

The ladder is now part of our basic kit. After that the ladder disappears back into the storage room. The packaging filled up a fair bit of our paper recycling.

The ladder has found its place in the renovation work. Once I've finished for the day, the ladder goes back in the room next door.

The ladder gets surprisingly small after the job. The strap holds everything together when carrying it.

The ladder feels properly made when you handle it.

The ladder came at just the right time for my to-do list. The next little project is already waiting.

The information about the parcel was helpful. My question was taken seriously.

The idea was new to me, but it's fine now. For use around the home, I get on well with it.

The first time I picked it up, it was clear this is no toy. So far the first few uses have won me over. A padded handle would be a better match for the weight.

The final price was as shown. I'd compared several offers beforehand. When I'm comparing, it annoys me when the supposedly cheap price only goes up noticeably just before you pay. Here I could plan around the total shown. The delivery then worked out fine as well. After unpacking it and using it for the first time, I'm still happy with my decision.

Reply was clear

The explanation was easy to follow even without any specialist knowledge. Communication stayed friendly and to the point. When it comes to tools, I don't automatically understand every term. So it mattered to me to get an answer I could make sense of without having to look things up. That worked here. The ladder has since been delivered and used. I get on well with the model, and the question I'd written in about has been sorted.

The difference when putting it away is obvious. You notice it when cleaning, too. The old ladder was fine in itself, but in our house it was simply always in the way somewhere. That's why this time I specifically looked at the size when it's closed up. Since the new one arrived, the passageway has been clear again. It suits my occasional jobs too, so switching was the right move.

The compact design was the deciding factor for me. The tool bag can come along too.

The box was intact, and so were the contents.

Took it along and happy

The black ladder in the van while loading up. Much easier for the trips to my parents' than the old rigid one. Everything gets secured before setting off. I've got on well with the 3.8 m one on the jobs so far.

Happy with the black one

The black 3.8 m one now sits with my tools. Looks good and suits the jobs I bought it for. Retracting it felt unfamiliar the first time, but it goes fine now.

Space gained

The bikes come out again without having to shift things about. Storage is a lot less hassle with it.

That made the decision easier for me. To my mind, the reply could have come sooner.

After a few weeks

Still happy after a few weeks of use. The size was a good fit for our jobs. When carrying it I still wish the handle were softer.

Sometimes all that thinking it over does pay off after all. Putting it away afterwards is easy as well. A few bigger pictures in the instructions would be helpful.

Slow the first time, much more familiar after that.

Should have got one sooner! Waiting for it to be dispatched tested my patience a bit.

Putting it away is much nicer than with my old one.

Pleasantly matter-of-fact answer to my question. The ladder I chose suits how I use it. I wasn't sure yet whether I even wanted to buy, and had a question first. The reply was refreshingly normal. It was about the question itself, not about selling me the biggest thing possible straight away. That made it easier for me to decide. So far the ladder suits what I had in mind.

Pleasant to deal with and no back and forth. As a non-expert, I could follow the explanation.

Telescopic ladder 3.8 m Black Pro: rungs with side-mounted locking mechanisms

01Locking

Every rung individually locked.

As you extend the ladder, each rung locks into place with its own locking mechanism. The lock indicator on every section shows you that everything is secure.

How it works

To retract it, release the locking mechanism at the push of a button. The ladder retracts rung by rung, and your fingers stay clear.

Telescopic ladder 3.8 m Black Pro: stabiliser bar and non-slip feet

02Stability

Stability starts at the base.

The removable stabiliser bar widens the base, and the non-slip feet grip on tiles, concrete and paving.

Setting up correctly

For safe working, the ladder must stand on firm, level ground. Lean it at an angle of about 75°. The foot of the ladder is then a quarter of the resting height away from the wall.

Stored better now

I'd been torn between different ladders for quite a while. In the end I went for the black 3.8 m one and so far it's a good fit. Here it is with our other tools in the cellar. Not a particularly photogenic corner, but being able to put it away was exactly what mattered to me. The first job is done, and I get on fine with the buttons. My husband has used it too by now and was happy with it. We probably needn't have put off buying one for so long.

Already in the thick of it

The room isn't finished yet, but the ladder has already helped. Closed up in the evening and put to one side. Looks tidy in the photo and that's how it arrived too. It was a good buy for us.

Frequently asked questions

What you should know before you climb up.

Is delivery free, and is there a 5-year warranty?

Yes, delivery within the UK is free, with no minimum order value. The estimated delivery time is 3 to 5 working days. You will receive an order tracking link by email.

The ladder also comes with a 5-year warranty against manufacturing and material defects. In the event of a warranty claim, we will repair or replace your ladder. There is no need to register; simply keep your invoice. Our customer service team will help you in English by email or via live chat. This does not affect your statutory warranty rights.

What ladder length do I need for my job?

First measure the height of the spot you want to reach and the space available for setting up the ladder. This ladder is 3.80 m long when extended. That is not the height at which you stand or work: leaning at an angle of about 75°, it does not reach as high as its length, and the top rungs are not meant to be stood on.

Which length is right also depends on the work you are doing and how the ladder is set up. If in doubt, send us your measurements and a photo via live chat.

How heavy is the ladder, and how big is it when retracted?

This ladder weighs 11.0 kg and is 108 cm long when retracted. That makes it easier to store and transport. The width of 45.8 cm applies to the extended ladder. Whether it fits in your car boot, cupboard or storage space also depends on its width and depth when retracted, and on the stabiliser bar. So measure up beforehand.

Can I carry, extend and retract the ladder on my own?

At 11.0 kg, the retracted ladder can easily be carried and set up by most users on their own. How easy it is also depends on your strength and practice.

As you extend the ladder, each rung locks into place. To retract it, release the locking mechanism at the push of a button, and the ladder then retracts rung by rung. Follow the user instructions as you do so and keep your fingers out of the area between the rungs.

How stable is the ladder when fully extended?

Set up correctly, it stands securely. The removable stabiliser bar widens the base, the non-slip feet grip on firm surfaces such as tiles, concrete and paving, and each rung is locked individually.

What matters is how it is set up: firm, level ground, a leaning angle of about 75° and a resting point strong enough to take the load. Only use the ladder in the way the instructions allow. The stabiliser bar does not compensate for soft or sloping ground.

How can I tell that the ladder is locked correctly?

As you extend the ladder, each rung locks into place with its own locking mechanism. The lock indicator on every section shows you whether it is secure. Before every climb, check the locking mechanisms of all the sections in use and inspect the rungs, stiles and feet for damage.

If a locking mechanism appears faulty or you are unsure, do not use the ladder and contact our customer service team.

Do tools and clothing count towards the maximum load?

Yes. The maximum load of 150 kg applies to everything combined: your body weight, clothing, shoes, tools and any materials you take up with you. So it is not 150 kg for the person plus the tools on top. Keep within this limit every time you use the ladder.

Which standard does this model meet?

This model is declared as conforming to the EN 131 standard. EN 131 is the European standard for portable ladders. It sets out requirements and tests, for example for load capacity, stability and build quality.

The standard is no substitute for correct use: observe the maximum load of 150 kg, the safety label and the user instructions. Whether the ladder is permitted for a particular professional use depends on the regulations that apply there.

Can I return the ladder if it isn’t right for me?

Yes, if you are buying as a consumer. You have 14 days from receipt to notify us of your cancellation, and then a further 14 days to send the ladder back. Email contact@rungfield.com or use the ‘Cancel your contract’ form. You bear the cost of the return shipment.

You may examine the ladder as far as is necessary to establish its nature, characteristics and functioning. If your use goes beyond that, you may have to pay compensation for the loss in value. You will find all the details in the cancellation policy.
